THREE FASHION ESSENTIALS FOR YOUR WINTER GETAWAY

Like so many other people who are bitten by the wanderlust bug, I love winter holidays. Usually, winter weather in the UK means grey skies and a barrage of rain, so if you want that traditional winter wonderland experience at this time of year, you have to travel for it. The question you always end up asking yourself though is, what should you pack? If you’re planning on taking yourself away to a quaint European capital, or retreating to a log cabin on snowy slopes, then hopefully this blog post should give you some pointers on how to stay on-trend whilst abroad.

1. Faux fur

This should be a winter fashion staple no matter where you are. The wind may be bitterly cold, but if you invest in a good quality oversized fur coat, you’ll always stay warm and toasty no matter what the elements throw your way. Layering up is  always a good idea, so when packing, you should try to include a few key pieces that you can adapt into several different outfits.

Gillets with fur lapels are a great addition, giving you that classic wintery look, but allowing you to add colour with a blouse underneath. For evening wear, shop around some of the fur-lined capes and luxurious soft scarfs that are in most high street stores, as the fur will lock in far more warmth than cotton or wool.

2. Boho-inspired jewellery

During the winter months, fashion is all about combining style with maximum comfort, but how can you achieve that? I always opt for more of a bohemian style; bold aztec patterned ponchos, over-sized leather bags with tassels, and chunky-knit cardigans gathered at the waist with a leather belt.

Then all you need to do to complete the look is by adding some stunning handmade jewellery from ChloBo, who have collections such as Gypsy Dreamer and Luna Soul that perfectly complement this style. From long necklaces that you can layer up, to charm bracelets where you can select the gemstones and charms that mean something to you, this is a simple but easy-to-achieve look that’s perfect for the winter months.

3. New boots

Another question you’ll probably be asking yourself as you stand in front of your suitcase is: what footwear should I take with me? All that knitwear and boho clothing takes up a lot of room, so opt for a high-quality leather boot, preferably knee-high so that you can wear tights, but without feeling too cold – wear these to the airport and free up some space.

Chestnut browns and distressed blacks or greys are always a trusted choice, but if you want something a little different, why not try an olive green or ox-blood red? Investing in a good pair of boots that go with several outfits means you won’t have to take many other pairs with you, plus they’ll be perfect for exploring foreign cities all day.

SUMMER OUTFIT IDEAS: ZARA STATEMENT JACKET

What I'm Wearing:
Jacket - Zara (Sale purchase)
Tee - Oasis
Necklace - Zara (Sale purchase)
Boots - JD Williams

So after several months off blogging I'm back with a brand new outfit post featuring this AMAZING Zara jacket which I'm currently a little bit in love with.

I rummaged through the Zara sale and although I had my arms filled with as many pieces as possible, I ended up putting everything back and purchased this beautiful statement jacket. I seem to get more wear out of statement, investment pieces as I get bored very easily when I invest in plain styles so I'm confident this will become a staple piece in my wardrobe for years to come. My golden rule when it comes to sale shopping is,  would I buy the item at full price, and on this occasion I definitely would.
But I do appreciate that there's lots going on in the print of this jacket, which may not be to everyone's taste. I enjoy wearing lots of colour and embellishment so this ticks all the right boxes for me.

I teamed this statement jacket with a simple white tee from Oasis, Topshop black Jamie skinny jeans and some amazing suede fringed boots, kindly sent to me by the lovely JD Williams team, you can find these boots on their site here.

I don't actually own any tan boots so this suede pair have definitely filled a gap in my wardrobe and they are super comfy. The fringing adds some fun detailing to give that real Summer boho vibe and the gold zip up the back gives a really polished finish too.

We've been dealing with some pretty unpredictable weather here in the UK considering it's supposed to be Summer so this look is perfect for everyday if it isn't a scorching hot day. On a warmer day, I would team this jacket and tee with a high-waisted skirt, sandals and sunnies for a more relaxed look.

I hope you love this look, let me know what you think in the comments below?

THE BEST BOMBER JACKETS FOR SPRING

This season the spotlight is on my most loved garment, the jacket. This season it's not just about the leather biker jacket or the classic trench coat, but it's semi-fitted friend, the go-anywhere bomber jacket. From silky quilted textures to heavily embroidered styles, the bomber jacket is fashion's new conversation starter.

Whilst you've probably become attached to that long Winter coat, it's time to pop that into storage and invest in a fresh, effortless bomber jacket which will take you from garden parties, to night's out and maybe even Glastonbury!

Here's my pick of the best which are all under £100 and available now, you can thank me later!

OUTFIT: TOPSHOP JAMIE JEANS, STRIPES & SHEARLING

What I'm Wearing:

Shearling Coat - Vintage
Striped Shirt - Charles Tyrwhitt
Black Jeans - Jamie style from Topshop
Socks - Topshop
Metallic Adidas Superstars - Schuh

As I now have to dress for work in a more corporate way I like to have fun with my outfits at weekends. This weekend has been very cold so I decided that comfort and warmth had to be high on the fashion agenda.

Shearling coats are perfect for that snuggled up feeling and this one is vintage from a charity shop and I'm sure I'll still be wearing it for years to come. I'm not going to lie, I'd love to invest in an Acne aviator jacket but I'm pretty sure that would break the bank. Although this style is vintage, there's lots of styles similar to this on Asos, Zara and Topshop but I've found that vintage styles are warmer and really well made so if you like to hunt for vintage, you might want to search for a more unique style on Depop or eBay.

My shirt is from Charles Tyrwhitt, specialists in formal wear and tailoring. I'm usually a size 8 but this shirt is a size 12 as I like my shirts to be oversized. The quality of this shirt is amazing and I decided to tie this style up into more of a cropped shirt to show off my high-waisted denim.

If you've seen other outfit posts of mine, you may have spotted that Topshop is my go-to place for denim. I've never tried the Jamie jeans before but so far I'm loving this style. They are super tight but the fabric is soft so they are really comfortable. The high waist is very flattering and I also managed to get them in Tall so they are long enough, woo! Long tall Sally's out there, I'm sure you will appreciate my happiness here. I'll definitely be investing in a few more pairs of the Jamie style.

As it's the weekend I've been sporting my metallic silver Addidas Superstar trainers which are my favourite shoes at the moment. They are the ultimate comfort shoes and add an interesting edge to any look.

Lastly, after being inspired by Lisa Potter Dixon's YouTube video on how to create the perfect halo braid I had to give it a go. I did cheat slightly by creating two plaits and crossing them over instead of plaiting all the way round but I was still pretty pleased with the result! If you love makeup tutorials which are easy to recreate, Lisa is Head Makeup Artist at Benefit Cosmetics so her channel is definitely worth checking out!

Let me know what you think of my first #OOTD of the year in the comments below!

Hope you've all had a great weekend,
