My Daily Make-up Routine

Thought I would do a quick post to show you all the beauty products I use on a daily basis. Although this is my current make-up routine, I do like to change and update my look occassionally depending on how I am feeling and what look I'm trying to achieve.

Products from top in clockwise direction: Chanel Perfection Lumiere in 12 Beige Rose / Yves Rocher Instant Anti-wrinkle Moisturiser / MAC eyeshadow in Honey Lust / MAC Brow Pencil in Lingering / Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealer in light-medium / Bare Minerals blush / Kiehl's Lip Gloss / Maybelline Master Precise Liquid Eyeliner / Real Techniques by Samantha Chapman blush brush / Bobbi Brown bronzing powder / Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge for Lips and Cheeks
So here is a breakdown of my daily make-up routine:
Skincare / Concealer / Foundation
Although it's probably not so urgent for me to be using anti-ageing creams at the tender age of 23, I think it is important to look after your skin and moisturise daily. Recently, I have been using this Yves Rochas Instant anti-wrinkle moisturiser (from the October Glossybox) which can only help me in the ageing process, whilst moisturising my skin too.
Once I have moisturised, I then use my Estee Lauder Double Wear concealer to mask any signs of tiredness and I also use it around my t-zone area if I have any blemishes. This concealer is one of my favourite products and also makes my skin appear much more radiant.
I then add a small amount of the Chanel Perfection Lumiere foundation on the top of my hand, and using a foundation brush I dab it on gently. Although this foundation was pretty expensive (£36) I have been really pleased with it's lasting effect and colour which is perfect for my pale skin tone.
Blusher / Bronzer / Brush
This time I decided to have a change with my bronzing powder as I usually go for the Chanel Tan De Soleil but instead I purchased the Bobbi Brown bronzing powder in Golden Light. Overall, I have been really happy with this bronzer as it has a natural colour and blends in well with my natural skin tone. My only criticism is that I feel I have to top it up over the course of the day, whereas the Chanel Tan De Soleil bronzer seemed to last much longer.
I have also found that I've been using either the Bare Minerals blush in The Confession or the Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge in Fresh Melon, to add a different tone to my cheeks. I only used to use either a bronzer or a blush but I have recently tried a combination of the bronzer and one of the blushers which I am much happier with! However, I find that the Bobbi Brown pot rouge looks great on it's own and adds a pretty, radiant glow to the cheeks. It can also be used on the lips too!
Another great way to change the look of your cheeks is to change your brush! This Real Techniques by Samantha Chapman brush helps to contour the blush and enhance the cheekbones. I definitely recommend!

Eyes / Brows
For eyeryday eyes I have been using the MAC eyeshadow in Honey Lust and the MAC brow pencil in Lingering (full reviews here). The mascara I am currently loving (but forgot to photograph) is the Rimmel Day 2 Night mascara. Although it has two parts, one for volume and length, I tend to just use the volume brush.
If I'm feeling like I want to put that extra little effort into my daily routine , I use the Maybelline Master Precise eyeliner pen which is a brilliant product! I've always found liquid eyeliner and 60s style flicks to be a pain, but this pen is super smooth and very easy to apply both above and below the lash line.
Although I love to wear lipstick it can sometimes feel too much for the daytime. This Kiehl's lipgloss is the perfect alternative and nourishes the lips whilst adding a hint of colour and enhancing your overall look.
I hope you have enjoyed this post on my daily make-up routine!

Beauty Review: Clarins Limited Edition Mineral Eye Palette

Clarins is one of my all time favourite beauty brands. I've tried many products including the One Step Gentle Cleansing Exfoliator and I always seem to be very pleased with the quality and longevity of each item I buy.
My most recent purchase is the Clarins Limited Edition Ombré Minerale eye palette (09 odyssey) which combines smoky and neutral tones with a striking gold foiled eyeshadow that can be applied when wet or dry.

Eye shadow is certainly something that I cannot live without (along with my concealer and mascara) as it masks any tell-tale signs of tiredness and helps to brighten up the eye area whilst reducing any redness.

This limited edition Clarins palette seemed to be the perfect fit in terms of what I was looking for, a set of everyday eye shadows that can also be worn during the evening. With Christmas and New Year on the horizon and many celebrations to attend, I wanted a palette that combined neutral shades with metallic colours that can be used to add extra impact and drama when needed!

As you can see the palette has four beautiful mineral shades inside, two applicators and a handy mirror for on-the-go touch ups! There's even a very swish velvet case and a card which shows you how the colours are best applied.

The eye shadows are particularly long wearing, have a silky-smooth mineral texture and don't tend to smudge or fade over the course of the day!

This really has been an excellent purchase and I have been using it non-stop. I just hope that Clarins continue to make this palette available before I have to go and buy another 3!

Hummingbird Raspberry Trifle Cupcakes

I don't usually blog about anything other than fashion and beauty but when cake is involved it's a different matter! I recently made these raspberry trifle cupcakes from my Hummingbird Bakery book and they were an absolute delight!

Fresh raspberries, vanilla sponge and creamy frosting...need I say more!

Image: Hummingbird

For the sponge:

  • 80 g oz unsalted butter, softened
  • 280 g10 oz caster sugar
  • 240 g oz plain flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 0.24 tsp salt
  • 240 ml fl oz whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 2 large eggs

For the filling and frosting:

  • 500 ml17½ fl oz whole milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla essence
  • 5 egg yolks
  • 100 g oz caster sugar
  • 30 g1 oz plain flour
  • 30 g1 oz cornflour
  • 200 ml7 fl oz double cream
  • 32 fresh raspberries
  • 100 g oz raspberry jam

1.  Preheat the oven to 190C / gas mark 5, and line a muffin tin with muffin cases.
2. Using a hand-held electric whisk, beat together the butter, sugar, flour, baking powder and salt on a low speed until the ingredients are well mixed and resemble fine breadcrumbs.
3. In a jug, whisk together the milk, vanilla essence and eggs by hand, then pour three-quarters of this into the dry ingredients, while mixing on a slow speed. Beat together, scraping down the sides of the bowl, to make sure all the ingredients are well incorporated. Add the remaining milk mixture and beat again, on a medium speed, until the batter is smooth.
4. Divide the batter between the muffin cases, filling each one two-thirds. Any remaining batter can be used to fill up to four more cases in an additional tin. Bake the cupcakes for 18-20 minutes or until the sponges bounce back when lightly pressed. Leave to cool slightly before removing from the tin and placing on a wire rack to cool down fully.

Proof that I did actually make them!

To make the filling and frosting:
5. While the cupcakes are cooking, make the custard for the filling and topping. Place the milk in a saucepan with the vanilla essence and bring to the boil. In a bowl, mix together the egg yolks, sugar, flour and cornflour to make a paste, adding 1tbsp of the hot milk to thin it, if necessary.
6.When the milk has boiled, remove the pan from the heat and mix 4-5 tbsp with the egg and flour paste, then pour this back into the pan with the remaining hot milk and return to the heat. Bring back up to the boil, whisking constantly, and continue to boil for a further minute to ensure the flour and cornflour are fully cooked. Pour the custard into a baking tray, cover with cling film and set aside to cool for 30-40 minutes.
7.Tip the cooled custard into a large bowl and beat with a wooden spoon to break up any lumps. In a separate bowl whip the double cream into soft peaks, either by hand or using the electric whisk. Fold the whipped cream into the custard and use to fill a piping bag (if using).
8.Using a sharp knife, make a hollow in the centre of each cupcake – approximately 2cm in diameter and 3cm deep – retaining the cut-out pieces of sponge. Place a raspberry upside down in the hollow of each cake, then spoon ½ teaspoon of jam on top, followed by the same amount of custard, either piped or spooned into the hollow.
9. Replace the cut-out pieces of sponge, trimming to fit and pressing down gently to ensure that the top is level with the rest of the cake, then pipe or spoon the custard topping in a circular motion (like whippy ice cream) on top of each cake. Add a fresh raspberry on top of the swirled custard to finish!
Have you tried any of the Hummingbird recipes before?

Do the Razzle Dazzle

First things first, I love sequins. Anything that glitters in fact. At this time of year I love nothing more than dressing up and adding a touch of glitz to any outfit I possibly can.
Whether its contrasting sequin sleeves or a statement necklace I have picked out some real dazzlers for you to take a look at!
This jacket seems to be getting more and more popular, and in fact this one's pre-order only, but it doesn't stop me from loving it. I really like how this classic camo has been jazzed up with sequin sleeves and I'm 100% sure this little number (from Lavish Alice) has the potential to go from day to night.
I really hope I'm not alone in this but I think I'm addicted to statement necklaces. This beauty from ASOS would look superb tucked under the collar of a buttoned up shirt, or wear with a LBD to add sparkle. And at £40 I'd say this necklace looks far more expensive!
Peplums are here to stay for this season and this very flattering burgundy dress from Topshop is the perfect party dress. Gorgeous colour, peplum style (which means you can eat and drink as much as you like!) and a fitted bodycon style which will enhance your shape.
I spotted these divine boots in Zara at the weekend and completely feel in love. Managable heel for the daytime, versatile colour and they are covered in subtle black gems. If wearing them in the daytime, keep your clothing simple and let these boots do the talking.
Before you think I'm encouraging you to walk around in just a gold sequin bra..I'm really not! Nobody does embellished bralets like Topshop does and this gold edition to their collection had to get a mention. Although I wouldn't want to wear it on it's own (maybe some would?), I think it would be fun to wear it under a black sheer blouse. But if you're having a down day I'd suggest this is the perfect bra to wear under your woolly jumper!
Another fabulous pair of footwear from Zara! Give your feet a break this season with a festive pair of glittery slippers, available in both gold and silver. Would look lovely with tights and dresses!
If you are looking for a collar that will layer well over tees and knitwear, this ASOS black collar with electric blue stones will work a treat. Inject some life into some of your old tops and add this collar over for work or play.

Daring to brave the cold and go out during the winter can feel like a struggle (especially if you are sat by the fire in your pj's!). So why not invest in this luxe sequin top from Mango which you could wear with skinny jeans, heels and red lipstick for an ultra glam look that will help to keep you warm.
How fabulous are these ultra glittery navy boots by Mui Mui? Covered from tip to toe in navy glitter and with Swarovski crystals on the heels, it's likely that you won't ever want to take them off!
Hope you have enjoyed my razzle dazzle post!
